Title: Manchester Velodrome Jan 4th 2026
Post by: Pete Fardell on Jan 06, 2026, 07:41 PM
A very enjoyable session at the Velodrome on Sunday. A dark, cold start for most of us in order to be there at 9am, but the 1pm finish meant we at least got to drive home in the daylight. Big thanks to Martyn Kinder for running the low key but very enjoyable Pistachio, Peanut and Kit Scale contests. Congrats to Tim Horne who was the only Pistachio entrant and therefore won it, John Cooper who won Peanut (4 entries) and Dave Whitehouse who won Kit Scale (6 entries).
Next Manc Velodrome event is the North West Gala on March 14th. Be there or be...
... rather annoyed that you missed it.
Pics are:
1.Tim Horne and my own table. The usual suspects on my side. Tim's Stinson Voyager flew well, into third place in KS.
2. Dave Crompton's fine models: Cessna Bird Dog and 2 Pipers: Vagabond and Super Cruiser
3. John Cooper's lovely peanut Vagabond...
4. ... and his Hawker Hart from the Westwings kit plan.
Here is some film from the day, all of Kit Scale subjects: https://youtu.be/vLhHCDtYZaw?si=0gcw2eiu-NeNzjr4

Really nice!

Are these under BMFA annual contest calendar or is it a club's own initiative?

Hi Spiros,
This meeting was arranged by Dave Whitehouse with the Velodrome. It isn't part of the official BMFA calendar but anyone can turn up and fly, if they pay their £20. The day was arranged in half hour alternating slots for Free Flight and lightweight RC.
There is also a joint BMFA/North West Area FF meeting here on March 14th. It's the 'North West Gala' incorporating both FF Scale and Duration competitions.
(A good opportunity too to practise and trim for the UK Nats the following month!)

I really appreciate seeing private initiatives in fly ins.

This keeps the motivation high!

I would love to participate in one, if only the distance wasn't that much.

They're all pretty, but JC's Hawker Hart really is special.

He made a good start on getting it trimmed too. And I agree- it's a real beauty of a model.
