Entries have started coming in, and my spreadsheet is filling up fast, so thanks to all who've got theirs in already. Although it's slightly daunting taking over Mike Stuart's role it's also nice for me to be able to see in advance who's entering what.
Kit Scale is already the most popular FF class, closely followed by Peanut. Pistachio meanwhile has... erm... plenty of space still!
No nuts for me this year though: Open Rubber, Intermediate and Kit Scale will do nicely.
While I'm here, if anyone's got a Nats build underway feel free to send me a pic and some deets for inclusion in my AeroModeller column.
And if people have any queries regarding entering or the rules I'm happy to answer if I can, either here or by email.

Really hope you can come! The official closing date for entries is 13th April but it's possible that if we get too many then we might have to close it before that. It's never happened before, but if we get more than 40 participants (we had about 35 last year) it would become very difficult to fit the contest flights into the time available.

Update on 25th March 2026 – The Scale Indoor Nationals Organising Team have had to make the unprecedented decision to close entries for the FFX4 Scale Indoor Free Flight Kit Scale Class due to reaching the maximum number of entries we can cater for on Sunday 26th April.
The Organising Team apologise to anyone who had not yet entered the class and intended to do so.

So far... 29 in Kit Scale, 15 in Intermediate, 13 in Open Rubber, 6 in CO2/Electric, 20 in Peanut, 9 in Pistachio, 11 in Nocal.
Looking quite busy then! KS aside, entry form is supposedly open for a couple more weeks, but the limits will ultimately be set by what our judges can realistically do in the time, hopefully without killing them. I gather there are
usually a few last minute dropouts though, as some models might not be ready in time.

It was a hugely enjoyable day run very well by the organisers and ran pretty much to schedule despite the large numbers. CD Pete Fardell did a great job not only organising the event but entering 4 classes as well making for a crowded table

Derek Knight brought along his wonderful Tiger Moth , veteran of both Indoor and Outdoor flying. It's a fine flyer but didn't want to play today
George Kandylakis had a range of spectacularly detailed models. This is his Avro 504 which flew beautifully in Open Electric. The 3rd flight was magical
Cockpit detail on the Avro
This is George's new DH60G which George had flying well in both peanut and open rubber
George also brought along the Bat Boat though it didn't fly in the event. It is stunning to see close up and in the flesh so to speak
Even the structure under the 'bonnet' is beautifully done with it's wonderful boat construction
The Stampe by Matts Johansson was also beautifully executed and flew beautifully too
Mike did well with his Blackburn Shark with 3rd in Intermediate ( I think) No results out yet so relying on memory
Richard Crssley's Grumman Duck is magnificent and flew its way to very deserved first in Open Electric
Also in Open Electric was Graham Banham's Ensign which was rock solid in the air, very impressive
Graham also had his new Chilton which was going very well too
Paul Hoey's Tiger Moth was mighty too in Kit Scale, electric powered which don't see very often in kit scale
A nice Hurricane for kit scale from Tony Rushby ( I think)

I entered my CO2 Sopwith Camel on the basis that is was better to enter something than just spectate and a test flight at the last Trinity had it going well so I put in back in the box and sent the forms off.
Quite what happened in the box I don't know as on the day it would not play ball and even a hand launch ended in disaster but as flight judge Gareth Tilston so concisely put it "Oh it's the Box's fault now is it !!!" :o
Still it didn't really dampen my day and no doubt next time it comes out away form Walsall it be flying nicely :-\

The lunchtime Glider class proved very popular with 11 entries. There were three rounds - duration , spot landing and a mass launch to finish all done from the balcony
Final event of the day was the air race
Lurk entered with nickel scale Howard DGA ... an optimistic choice with myself as pit crew.
You can see how small it is next to the winder.
Refuelling is tricky with such a small model but we managed a few of flights with result of the grand total of er.. 1 lap before the motor jumped off the prop hook and hid it's self at the end of the fuselage, possibly in embarrassment at flying with larger faster models

RC Flying I can still see but it's full of advertising now. Is it from technical reasons that the livestream/recording was killed?

I'll try and post some of my own pics at some point, particularly if I find any of models Lurk missed, but for now here's almost the first one I took at 7am on Sunday, when I arrived a full hour early to make sure I wasn't late. I had the whole hall to myself for about 45 minutes, but resisted the temptation to have a sneaky private trimming session. (Probably shouldn't have resisted in retrospect.)

It was Dave's first time entering, and as Andrew's already said this model flew really well in Kit Scale. Results are still being ratified but I think he finished well inside the top half of the table. And another Indoor Nats newbie (I think); Colin Fray, actually WON NoCal. Hats off to both of them!
PS I'm enquiring about the taken down YouTube livestream footage from Sunday. Hopefully it's just in the editing room and will reappear.

Not taking anything away from Dave, but I think was his second year - certainly the 2025 event is when I first met him and he was flying his VMC SE5a. We struck up a friendly rivalry as we finished so close together that year....

Let me add my thanks to all who have posted photos and videos. The participation was great - especially the glider event.
I watched some of the BMFA livestream too. It is really helpful (especially to those of us from far away who do not know the people first hand) for the names of the competitors, the models and the event to be captioned. I know it is easiest to just set the camera going and leave it alone, but a little bit of info appearing on the screen would be really good. Could that feedback be sent through tot hose who were in charge of that side?
