A while back, Dave (dputt7) gave me a copy of Gray & Thetford's "German Aircraft of the First World War". He had a later edition so thought I think he'd plant the seed with me re building another German machine. Thank you Dave. I went straight to the back pages where the weird and little known types are hidden and found the Pfalz D.IV... don't think I can resist building one to see how it goes. Might not be a quick build - but will help me get back on the building board after a bit of a break!
Gray & Thetford only had one pic and one para description - but of course there's more info on the net.

I too have concerns about that small vertical fin. I hope that the large aft side area of the fuselage will add the needed stability missing from that rather small fin.

This would be supper cool. If you enlarge the rudder say 10-15%, it shouldn't look to far out of place. My point being, I'm thinking of the Lee's Hobbies aircraft. Great subjects but almost all have enlarged rudder and or tail surfaces. Especially if your thinking of a peanut version.

lol, my Lee dr1 need more than the clear cheater. But then I was just a we lad.
On this subject that deep sided rear fuselage might have a lot of stability hiding there.
That was one I've never seen before. Strange that after building the very sleek and pretty D.III they designed this thing. Just shorten the wings a bit and you will have a natural Bostonian! Still, it does have some quirky charm.
