Title: Sam 9 Strela.
Post by: André Wind on May 21, 2026, 12:25 PM
Today started to building an unusual model.
The plans are made by Oliver Sand and they are perfectly.
The easy way is to buy a short kit from Oliver.

The cowl and spinner are printed after drawing in SW.
And off course powered with a CO2 engine ( as always 🙃)

Today started with the fuselage.
At they and off the fuselage you can see the bottom profile off the airfoil.
It's a strange airplane but easy to build.
The fuselage weights, until so far, 4,63 grams.

Now that's a BIG peanut. Will have to check in on your progress. I wonder if this would fly better with a sharp leading edge or a rounded one. The aerodynamics of low aspect ratio and delta (sort of) wings can be weird.

Sam 9 Strela.
I always make a mold to create the contours of a laminated frame leading and trailing edge.
The drawing is really great.
Everything fits exactly as shown in the drawing.

The GM 300 is the engine for the power off this unusual model.

The wing is now ready to made the dihedral as mentioned on the plan.
All the ribs are lined up with the degrees of the dihedral.

I had planned to install a GM 300 in this model, but the model is so light that a GM120 is more than sufficient.

To adjust the GM120 for just enough power I've split the cowl in two parts.

Maybe next week covering the complete model.

Has anybody determined what the CG location should be? It wasn't shown on the plans published in the FAC mag.
