Not a build thread as the model has already been built and flown. Managed to get second place in Kitscale at the 2025 IIFI in Nijmegen. However it suffered some damage while there and also needed some adjustment to the tailplane so it is what I am currently working on. This is where I am up to with it. Tissue stripped off; repairs and modifications done and just about to start re-covering.
IIFI 25?
you mean when you got this?
Thanks for that photo George. I still have the beer as I am saving it for when the model is finished and flying again.
Tissue covering is done. Water shrunk and two coats of banana oil to finish. Just need to redo the markings and fit the stab.
I will be retrimming at the Manchester Velodrome on Sunday as we have a funfly meeting. If anyone on here is a regular or occasional attendee at the Velodrome (or if you know someone who is) can I urge you to support this meeting. The management have messed with our booked dates this winter and Dave Whitehouse needs support to make sure we don't get sidelined when it comes to future bookings. Good attendance will help.
The Stinson is back together again and ready for (re)trimming. I had forgotten what a tedious job the "GULFHAWK-JR" lettering and side stripes were. Very glad that's finished. A little bit of touching up needed on the painted parts but that's all.
Now I just hope that the possible 15" of snow that has been mentioned doesn't arrive or myself and a few others won't make it to the Velodrome on Sunday :o .
I'm now in a position to get back into some model building! I think I left a half finished Mew Gull lying around here somewhere...................
Wow Tim! What a striking color scheme !! :o 8) 8)
How on earth did you do your markings on that plane? I haven't built the Gulfhawk F4F because I could never figure out how to do the covering.
Thanks gents. I do love the Gulfhawk scheme.
There are 3 different methods for doing the markings on this model. The wing chevrons are just tissue. Model was covered completely in orange tissue first. White tissue chevrons were chalked to make them brighter. Black tissue strips were not as challenging as I expected. Black was doped first before cutting into strips, then attached with thinners.
Side strips and "Gulfhawk" name is just pen on paper. Cutting out was fiddly and took time. Just glued on with UHU stik.
Wheel pants and nose were just painted. Too fiddly to do with tissue or paper.
'Just pen on paper' he says... ::)
