Flight Report #32  of  Wed July 22 to Fri July 24 2026

Pic #1     4209     Here is a bunch of flights.   All ten flights were 5 to 6 seconds on 200 finger winds.    I did experiment with right wing tip clay weight to open the tight circle more,  which was a mistake,  it was actually fine where it was.

Pic #2     4210     Here the Beaver tries to land on the pitch.

Pic #3     4211     Just over shot the landing a bit.

Pic #4     4213     Long flight.

Pic #1     4214     Just landed.

Pic #2     4215     Another nice long one.

Pic #3     4216     Nice landing in the cut grass.   The grass height is still good after cutting,  but the ground is getting harder and the grass is not pure emerald anymore.

Pic #4     4217     In low for a landing.

Flight Report #32  of  Wed July 22 to Fri July 24 2026

Pic #1     4218     The Beaver underside.   The usual,  soft,   one half flip forward,   on the nose plant landing,  in good grass.

Pic #2     4219     Another low flight circling left.

Pic #3     4220     All of these flights were nice and therapeutic.

Now we are on the walk out of Jackson Park.

Pic #4     4222     New Pine cones.

Pic #1     4223     And a final look at the low wind at the Spitfire and Hurricane.

And the last two pics of the two flights on Fri July 24 2026,  after which it was too windy.

And that is the end of  Flight Report #32 of Wed July 22 to Fri July 24 2026.

Happy flying,  get out and fly ....  The 30" Beaver was a good plane to bash around the park,  and experiment with.

This song gets the Brits going ....  hits home at  3:00 min and  5:20  min
I just noticed that no one is playing their bases .... oh,  well,  ....  free air metal reeds,  none the less.

It's curious that you have so many strands break when you are nowhere near full winds.  What are you using to lubricate the motors?
I'm sure the North American members can tell you a good brand of lube to use - some things that have been suggested in the past turned out to weaken the rubber, but a good silicon grease works pretty well in my experience and it does help keep the motor in good order and wind and unwind smoothly.
All the best

Better drowned than duffers, if not duffers won't drown

It may help if the motor is stretch wound even with only 200 winds or so. A universally available winder is a hand drill with a suitable hook. Make sure you put a 90 deg. bend in the end that goes into the chuck so the hook can't pull out.

DOW Corning 33 (aka MolyKote) and NAPA Sil-Glyde silicone lubricants are used by avid free flight enthusiasts in the United States. In my experience, neither one degrades TAN II or TSS rubber.

Thanks for all the replies.

Flight Report #33  of  Aug 3 2026

Well,  I really took a break there,  because of a couple of family member deaths,  (the second one was sudden),  and all of the petty,  family and financial drama involved, etc etc etc.   Yikes !

The last time I flew the Beaver was on Aug 3 2026  Flight Report #33 -   more like  'Report of the hard ground of the Cricket Field'   and no more flying  'til fall ...   The grass was,  back then on Aug 3,  even turning yellow and the ground hardening up and drying out -  no more decent rain.

I only got three flights and two in flight pics  -  the first was the standard  180  finger winds and  a six second perfect flight.   But there was now a broken strand of rubber afterwards,  and I sent it off again any way.   Big right turn now !?!   Sent it off the third and last time,  from a new spot,  and the wind suddenly gusted from a new direction,  and blew it into a right cartwheel crash,  as soon as it left my hand.   I quit right there and then.   The Gods of free flight were trying to tell me something.   Luckily no damage.

Today is Aug 12 2026.   The ground everywhere is now too hard !    And the grass is really going dormant yellow.    So that is the end of flying until maybe late fall.    I did make a new motor and put it in.   Ready to fly!

Last pics of Jackson park,  also,  of Flight Report #33

Pic #1     4381     The leaves are starting to come down.

Pic #2     4382     Snowball tree and brickwork.

Pic #3     4383     Wind is gusting too much.

Pic #4     4384     No gusting wind now - just regular calm before the next gust.

Flight Report #33  of  Aug 3 2026

Pic #1     4385     They just snipped the tops of the green grass blades off.

Pic #2     4386     Flight #1   My Best Flight pic   -  a good one.

Pic #3     4387     The standard landing half flip forward.

Pic #4     4388     Flight #2     Going way right now  -  broken strand!   (That really cannot be the cause,  can it?)

Flight Report #33  of  Aug 3 2026

Pic #1     4389     In the shade for winding at the new spot.

Pic #2     4390     Flagging tape for wind direction.

Pic #3     4391     Flight #3     Immediate right cartwheel to landing on its feet  -   no damage -  time to quit.

The End  of  Flight Report #33 of Aug 3 2026.

So,  I am now looking forward to getting back,  to building and finishing,  a new model to fly,  by Jan or Feb 2027,  that is 5 or 6 months from now,   building over the winter.    That is the plan.   The building board is cleared.
