In two days we will have our third ever indoor fly in in the country. The other two were over 10 years ago.

Indoor and especially free flight has been thoroughly ignored for many years.

RC has seen some activity, especially with the emergence of micro models and rc systems.

For some decades I was convinced I was the only one building and flying indoor models here. And flew mostly in competitions abroad, usually with untested untrimmed models...

But in the past couple of years this has changed. Now there are others as well and we are slowly growing in number and activity.

We will meet in Athens on Sunday with everything indoor. Nothing spectacular but still an important event given the past history.

Around 18 modellers are expected to participate, 50 models or so.

Nothing official, just get together for six hours and fly.
Rubber scale and non scale, F1N, RC scale and non scale and (luckily?) a sole F3P flyer for indoor aerobatics. Control line as well.

And an unofficial Hangar Rat competition with 13 entries...Winner wins a chocolate bar.

So, be prepared for some photos coming after Sunday.

I prefer an Orange juice.

I'm on a diet, so chocolate is out of nutrition.....

Members from the initial HPA forum will probably remember me often apologizing for the many spelling errors I made in my long build posts. It goes without saying that the same applies in the continuation of HPA here...

Understandable to an extent, since english is not my native language.
(Side note, I did get motivation to learn english in order to be able to read and understand Aeromodeller and Model Builder magazines, my "education" material at that time.)

The same applies of course to other greek members here, like Spiros, only his problem is understanding, not writing, so apologies for him too.

No, Spiro, the chocolate is for the winner. Winner is the person who finishes first, not last. If you wish an orange juice, we can provide one as a consolation prize, for the one at the bottom of the result list. All yours...

To avoid getting further mixed up in this inside joke of us, I wisely chose to run the Hangar Rat event, so I am avoiding competition and resulting comments ;D

As for the Fly In itself, a joint effort by Spiros and me...

Please George and Spiros, correct me if I'm wrong, I heard that due to all the fun not a lot of pictures were taken.
But Spiros shared a link to a short video posted on his YouTube channel with me the other day, showing some side activities, which I am willing to share with you all here at HPA as well.

It was FUN!!!

Indeed not more than 10 pics were taken (personally I took only 2!!!), as we were all thrilled with the flights.

It was an excellent fly-in and we see more to come in the future!

Of course, George will give some breifing on the overall activities.

P.S.: This video was taken from the evening dinner after the fly-in...... We had to continue somehow......

It has been a few days now...

As Spiros summed it up, it was good fun.

In terms of participation it was ok, we did have some last minute cancellations and ended up with 15 people flying. For greek standards this is quite a lot.

Plenty of Hangar Rats, nine entered in the competition which consisted of two segments, a timed flight session where we eventually managed to sqeeze in 6 rounds of flying, and a all up/last down part which provided quite a lot of fun to the -mostly newcomers in free flight- group of people.

With nine Rats flown it was interesting. I have a video to be uploaded later.

Flight times improved with each round and ended up to over 1,5 minutes, the max being 1:51.

Winner was John Kourbanis.

Apart from the Hangar Rats we had 5 RC scale models, of which I managed to take no pictures at all. A beautiful looking and flying Bleriot became toothpicks when it crashed onto a basketball board. Actually the fuselage did, the wings were more or less intact.

5 people flew rubber powered scale models, some new still in trimming stage. But it is safe to say this was the first time so many different modellers flew free flight scale in Greece. A late but good start...

Some HLGs, F3Ps and an electric control line model rounded up the picture. And the usual small RC planes, although a minority.

Timewise it was ok, I do not know how it would be with over 20 people attending, I guess we will have to wait and see next time.

Unfortunatelt, we completelt failed as far as pictures are concerned. Completely forgot about it...

Some more will follow.

Sounds very encouraging, will there be another in the near future while everyone is still interested.

The rates of both The Lurker Industries Photography & Kinematograhy Club and Squirrelnet Artistic Photography (Weddings, Christenings and Toy Aeroplanes a speciality. Also ask us about our highly rated catering service) are very reasonable.
