Good luck with that, seriously.  It's currently 3-1 in favour of the tissue in my attempts to use the VMC Al. tissue. I've not been able to get it to shrink to a properly taut state, especially over compound curves.

I have used it on a few models now, and fully agree with you, it sure isn`t the easiest tissue to work with.


But it will save the weight of a thicker alu paintjob, i now just have to 'mist' the alu paint with an airbrush over the Spit.

What did you do airplane wise today?

      I just went out for a short walk in the low wind and in the heat,  with the  30"  Beaver.    I had four flight sessions in the last two days -  the Beaver flies well after all of that nose repair.  Today I just got two nice pics on two flights of six  seconds,  and the wind was getting too gusty,  so I quit.  I really just wanted to check the grass on the Cricket Field that they cut yesterday.

      I will just post a few pics in my Beaver Thread for the last two days combined,  in a bit.

    I really must get on with the  30"  Gipsy Moth build,    but we have had really good rain so far this spring here in the city,  but the county,  full of farmland,  did not get the rain we got.

Yesterday in fact - I didn't have time to post yesterday - I rescued this little 11" span test model from a cornfield. It had been flying on two strands of 1/16" rubber but was lame. I only have two sizes of rubber: 1/16" and 3/32". So two strands of 3/32" was a big step up - the model responded by flying into the cornfield despite the increase in its already monster wingloading.

The model went down near a low sun too, so I could barely see it - no idea of how far away it was. I looked behind me and got a good fix on a telegraph pole; looked ahead and fixed a funny lopsided treetop. Then I struggled my way onto and into the cornfield. The corn isn't yet as high as an elephant's eye, but is doing very well considering the drought conditions. I waded out until I was on my telegraph pole-treetop line of reference, and spent 5-10 mins slowly advancing and getting more despondent until I spotted the model sitting high on a leaf. Which was a great re-leaf, you might say.

This is a geared model with a 3", 75mm prop disc diameter. While my proper flying field is out of use I've been tinkering with some different gear setups, and I think I'll start a thread on the subject.

     Hi Stephen.    That is a great looking balsa-sheeted test model,  with that excellent 3 blade wood prop!   And the Gods of Free Flight were truly smiling on you,  when you found your test model in the cornfield!

     I am looking forward to your build thread on the subject.
