Sterling Ringmaster S-2

Elsewhere I was reading that some folks like to think of models that are under the control of a person as being second rate, or not worthy of this site.

While we can still post of models that still benefit from RC (real control) I thought I'd post my Sterling Ringmaster S-2 kit. This is a modern take on the classic CL (AKA, Real Control) with a sheeted LE and an updated Fox Stunt 35. You might notice that the covering is Monokote with a K&B epoxy black fuselage. I'm shocked at the large rudder off set (per the plans). Also the fixed lead outs (per the plans).

Things to note are the oversized light weight foam tires for grass circles. Also there looks to be a pipe mount for the mousse mufflers often needed in modern times.

This Ringmaster is fitted with Fox Stunt 35 that is sporting a stuffer back plate and Hemi head.  Not shown was that I used 65' lines and a wide blade 10x5 prop. I never could get the called for 10x6 to fly the model correctly.

I'm also seeing a patch on the outboard wing tip. I think I used this to adjust the wing tip weight to counter the lead out weight.

Definitely a classic Konrad. The simplicity and response of CL is refreshing.

Lots of fun, concentration and satisfaction was the result of my first successful CL flights.

I feel sorry for people that haven't experienced it and the full range of modelling activities.

Well, many think the ribbed LE Ringmaster as the true classic and this the "new" sheeted LE as the upstart kid.

Yep there is something lost not having to run like the wind to regain line tension after the model turns into you after the wing over! Or puking your guts out waiting for the world to stop spinning!

Great times! I wouldn't trade them in for anything. Well, maybe for a blue head ST.60!

I never got to the dizzy or puking stage but I was chased all over the circle by a model that released from the stooge before I got to the handle!

It was great entertainer for the spectators I didn't know I had.

Always had a helper.  I have ask if you were able to save the monster? Like grab the down line and force a nose over, before she made flight.

I think the physical strain was more from the fast combat ship or 1/2A combat with their 35" lines.

Can't tell you how many wonderful hours I have spent flying the Ringmaster, Shoestring and Buster!  Love those planes.
Would love to hear from anyone in Northern Alberta.

Yes it did eventually. I was flying over a golf green late in the day(no golfers), and it seemed like an eternity before the model tripped over.

It seemed like it was chasing me as it followed my changes in direction as the lines snagged slightly on the ground.

Fortunately it was only a 1cc diesel.

Those Carl Goldberg Shoestring(s) ate up a lot of my GM silkspan and yellow dope. Probably killed too many brain cells.
