Spare Telco charging nozzle

Does anybody have a spare Telco charging nozzle that I can buy? The tip of mine broke when trying to charge. Ancient plastic, no doubt. A spare Gasparin would be fine, too.

Presumably this is the type of component which could be 3D printed as spares of originals run out or the plastic becomes brittle with age and breaks.  Just takes someone who can do the cad drawings and hold the STL file on the forum (or plans section).  Maybe would need to be printed in ABS of CF reinforced filament, but do-able all the same.

Hi John,

this part is very easy to model in 3D.

But I have serious reservations for such an action, I might even advise against it.

The neck area is very small in cross section. As the 3D model is getting built, presumably with the part oriented flat, in horizontal passes this will mean circular cross sections every 0,1mm or so. The adhesion and strength of each slice to the previous is weakest in that vertical direction, exactly as the gas will be pushing.

So, in a warm day it may well fail, catapulting a 1,6mm ball in the air.

Scares me a bit...

So, here is the part drawnup in 3D. Not a final version, the internal thread needs some fine tuning dimensionwise.

The thread immediately proved to be a second tricky point. Getting it 3D printed in such detail is a question, combined with the expected strength.

Also, it raises the question of what method to use for printing. FDM might be difficult.
Resin might not be strong enough.

3D printing gives solutions but not for everything, I am afraid.

Thankfully Henk's original question has been answered, so it is ok that we have hijacked it to another direction...

As an alternative low tech solution I had a rummage around in my Telco tin and have found this spare one if it is of any use to. The mounting lugs have been cut off for reasons lost (possibly something to do with a scale model) but the tip is intact

George that is very impressive . I wonder if they could be CNC machined in Aluminium. Possibly prohibitively expensive though

Hi Chris,
May I accept your offer? I have no plans to mount a charging nozzle, and if I ever do, backing the nozzle with a bit of plywood would serve as well.
But the idea of CNC machining a batch of Telco nozzles is very attractive. It might work. You see, apart from Aeromodelling, another of my interests is classic motorcycles, and spares are often a problem. But every now and then somebody on the globe has a batch of, say, 1976 Ducati footpeg rubbers made. This percolates through the community and everybody who has made do with worn out or non original ones buys a set. Perhaps this works for modelling spares as well.

 Aeromodellers and classic bikers do seem to be kindred spirits, there seems to be a fair bit of crossover too. I guess we are a generation that likes actually doing and creating things , I've an interest in old bikes too and have similar experiences with old AJS parts

The next logical step is to send the 3D drawing to PCBWay or one of the other online vendors asking for a quote to make 10 or 20 in aluminium.

That is a great idea Raggedflyer. We are creeping towards getting a quote for complete new build Telco motors! 😄

OK I'll take up the challenge posed by Chris (Squirrelnet). 

If George does the full and final CAD drawing and emails me the file (I can't get my head around Fusion 360) that I can stick into my Stepcraft UCCNC software.  That will then sort out the tool paths as it will be at least a 2 cut operation - internal and external.  I'll run a prototype or two off in aluminium or brass (may help with nose weight) to iron the bugs out of the design.
 
Someone else can prototype the 3D printer version using carbon reinforced filament to test the strength issues highlighted by George.

I reckon there won't be a huge market requirement for these because not many people are using CO2 motors (is it a motor or an engine)?

However don't expect this in a couple of days I have serious pressure on my time for another 2 / 3 months yet.

Raggedflyer can head up the quoting side with contacting short run CNC companies to see some pricing quotes.

OH Chris - and I'm a classic biker as well! Currently running a BMW R1100S and assembling the kit of parts which hopefully will resemble a 1970 Triumph T100C when finished.  Then next in the queue a 1993 BMW Funduro 650 for full rebuild.

Yes the amount of cross over of interest always surprises me. I have a pre-war AJS and more modern Fireblade and Andy B of this parish is also partial to two wheeled fun of Z1000 variety
