How much fuel does a medium to large diesel use>

Say, for example, a PAW .35? That's roughly 5.5cc. The control line aeobatic guys must know I hope? Also wondering about a 5cc ED or a 5cc Miles, or even the .29/5cc dieselised Merco. Anyone have any experience to share please?

In fact, it will be for R/C but on average I'm guessing a steady setting with a C/L venturi won't be far off.

Any ideas where to look on the internet? I've looked at CLAPA and the regular engine sites such as Adrian's, modelenginenews, PAW, Stalker with no luck. Maybe Barton could have helped. I not, I will have to set up and run a tank dry.

[Sorry about moving the topic if you were reading the original version.]

Thanks in hope

You could ask Tony Eifflander. Not only does he build the large diesels, but he competed with them in CL Aerobatics in the 1990's. Contact info: https://www.eifflaender.com/contact-us

For reference, PAW's reply;
" Hi Nigel

My 35 runs for approximately 7 minutes on 70cc of fuel with an 11x7 prop. This figure is dependant on prop size and fuel mix bit it's not far off what you can expect.

Very helpful and useful.
Next problem is the engine is mounted inverted on top of the bearers to align with the cowl design, so positioning the tank is going to be 'interesting'. Maybe I should convert to freeflight and use a 5cc dropper tank on the bulkhead  ;D ? More likely is that as a header tank plus a pressure-fed main tank elsewhere.

Nigel, what type of R/C model is it, fully aerobatic or an r/c assist of an enormous ff model of yesterday, or something in between?  And how long an engine run are you wanting?

The tank should align with the needle valve assembly. For CL aerobatics it should also have a symmetrical mounting, ie. the motor should run with the same speed in normal and inverted flight. 70 cc is a fairly small tank in a CL aerobatics model so installation is no problem sizewise in a fuselage. For other installations center the tank on the needle valve. The venturi on a large diesel is small enough to ensure fuel draw provided the tank is in a correct position near enough to the needle valve.
