It is known to many, of course, it is generally posssible to add a picture to your profile, to add some personality to your posts.

Lurk for example has a hat, I have my Batboat. Better than the impersonal shadow standard of the forum.

To do that go to your profile, your name will appear at the top left corner. Left click on your name and "account settings" will appear. Click on that and you get the forum profile tab, where the personalised picture menu is located. Upload an image as an avatar and you are done...

Further down, you can also add other information, such as a signature (still have to do mine).

Birthday is not really necessary, it is used to display your age in your profile, I do not know if it is visible by other members.

Location on the other hand would be nice to add, to give us all an idea of where we are. A country will suffice. Or as much as you want. No detailed adress or floor  ;D

One of the things I miss from old SFA was the member's map. I am thinking it would be fun to have that here. It is possible, it is available as n add-on, but needs programming. Put that down for later too...

Back to the subject of avatars, as you might easily notice, some members have a small icon appearing next to their names in their profiles or their posts.

Many still have not, which might mean either they do not want to or they do not yet know how to.

For the latter case, here is a brief "tutorial" on how to edit your profile to add that picture and get rid of that boring gray silhouette.

Also at the bottom of the same menu is the "location" field. Here you can add where you are from.

Nothing mandatory, of course, only if you so wish...

For me at least it is nice to know where everyone is from. From what I know at the moment, there are members from at least 17 countries present.

I assume we will have to have the avatar already sized to upload. Are there guidelines on how to accomplish this. I just get a bunch of pixelated squares as my Avatar.
Cut it twice and it was still too short!

Hi Konrad,

current settings for the avatar are 65x65 pixels.

But the software does that for you. So, you chose an image for uploading and then it gets resized and saved for your use.

Give it a try, it should work, if not, let me know here.

George -

Thanks for these helpful instructions. I wanted to add an avatar when I first joined a few weeks ago, but was unable to do so. Your instructions made it easy. My avatar is a picture of Stan Buddenbohm's famous Air Shark P-30. I also added my location.

Would it be possible to create a Buy/Sell/Trade topic under the General Section of the Forum portion of this new HPA website? The two prior versions of the HPA website had this feature. I never sold anything via HPA but I get inquiries from time to time about buying free flight tools, etc. One person who posted a reply on one of my YouTube videos last year wanted to know if he could buy a Rees winder. I told him they are out of production but directed him to the Buy/Sell/Trade topic on the 2nd iteration of HPA. I have since directed him to this website.

Thank you so much for bringing HPA back to life. I see that many of the regular contributors to the prior iterations of HPA are slowly but surely joining this website. So far I find the ease of use and entertainment value of this new HPA website to be exceptional.

AS you may have noticed, I have changed my avatar to a photo of me taken in, I think, about 1966 and yes, I am presenting the remains of a model plane to the camera!  The first of many crashes!
