Good morning.

True. Dumas is shutting down and this is a petty. Seems we are not that many so a busniess can hold up and be profitable. It would be good though if another company (e.g. VMC), could step up and take over.

My kit is not even 24". It is the 18".

In Greece and in Europe overall indoor is the main activity instead of outdoors, therefore, smaller sizes are preferable.

Spiros

and here are some pics of the plan for the floaters.

Let me know if you'd like to have it.

Hi Spiros!

Thanks for posting the pics of the kit box and plans,  of the floats only,  18"  Dumas Beaver!  I forgot about that 'oddball'.  8)  I do have 30 kits un-built,  on the wall shelves full of laser cut balsa and plans,  and all of the extras needed for a complete build,  that are way ahead in the cue,  but thanks for the offer anyway.  :)

I wish I had an indoor flying site like you have.  I tried to get some guys to rent the local high school gym here,  but I got no interest unfortunately.  Out of  14  guys in our Model Club at our local Canadian Aviation Museum,  only two were balsa builders and 12 were plastic builders.  And the other balsa builder was only making static display models.

That is why I fly outside.  I have no choice,  but it is a good one,  because I live right next to a big park with a Cricket Field.  I can leave my apt door and in 15 minutes be set up and stretch winding the Beaver in a winding stooge.  ;D

Of course,  a  30"  plane will fly better in the wind (there is always wind),  than an 18" model will.  That is why I went large Jumbo size with the 30" Beaver,  a "rubber powered Park Flyer",  in the thread title (one must cover all the angles in a thread title).  ::)

But in a cookup,  all sizes and all types,  of amphibious planes would be welcome.  Maybe an 'informal cookup' with separate build threads -  I would say get three or four committed,  and call it a 'cookup with no specific end date'.    Just a thought.    We all have a model just waiting for a category of cookup,  that the model would suit.

I am still in shock that Dumas is closing.   :(

I know how it is.

Trust me. We struggle to find people sometimes, to be able to share the cost. It's rather expensive!

BTW, the melody is so nice!!

Flight Report #22  of   Fri may 29 2026

We got out again for some finger wind flights with the 9" motor.   We tried up to  180  finger winds.   Longest flight was   6  seconds.    I'm having more fun just finger winding.

Flight Report #23  of Monday June 1 2026

We still have unreal low wind weather -  I must fly as much as I can   ....  the summer drought is coming ....

I broke a  1/8" strand on the second flight,  and it still flew but not as long -  I thought the strand smacking around in the fuse was making that little ticking sound.   It turned out to be a loose nose block I think.

Six flights -  6  6   4  3  5  seconds,  on 180 finger winds,  on the nine inch motor.

Pic #1     3098     Wind on the flag - Dawn Redwood trees.

Pic #2     3099     Wind at the Spit and Hurri.

Pic #3     3100     Six second flight.

Pic #4     3101     Soft landing.

I went home and started working on a  13"  motor,   and other repairs.

REPAIRS

The repairs started Mon afternoon,  right after Flight Report #23 and #22 posted above,  and were worked on from Mon night,  and all day Tues and half of today Wed.    I missed two flying days of looooonnnnnngha  grass!

I worked all day Tues June 2 2026 on a lot of repairs, whereupon closer inspection of the nose,  whilst changing the motor,  caused me to find a lot more damage than I thought.

The weather has still been great.   I flew Fri May 29 just finger winds with the 9" motor  Flight Report #22,  and flew again on Mon June 1 2026,  Flight Report #23 just finger winds again,  but I broke a strand on that 'previously almost used up',   9" motor.

So here are my repairs,  actually starting on Monday.

Pic #1     3109     New  13"  motor rubber loops are tied up and the extra is clipped off.

Pic #2     3112     Knots are spaced out ready to tie up.

Pic #3     3114     Looks like the old  9"  motor broke a strand right at the knot.    The  13"  motor is all tied up.

Pic #4     3118     The installed  13"  motor is hanging out from the nose.    There is a lot of latent energy sitting there ....  Prop hook to rear peg is  10".

Nose Damage and Infill Planking

Pic #1     3119     The nose is cleaned up and ready for new stringers and infill planking,  top and sides.   I should have done this from the start ....

Pic #2     3124     There are four,  cut out,  1/16" sq stringer replacements.

Pic #3     3126     These are tricky to butt-glue in there.

Pic #4     3132     Four paper strips are cut out to add to the four sides of the tenon of the slightly loose nose block.

Pic #1     3164     Two more silkspan pieces are cut out (difficult spot for planking).  for the outlined area on the plan copy.

Pic #2     3167     Here we are finished,  and the cowl holds in there tight by itself.   Looking all trim.

Pic #3     3170     Underside view.   I have not sanded the infill planks smooth yet ....

Pic #4     3171     Six new striped strips,  two new red maple leafs,  and two big new roundels,  all on top of the wing and stab.

Ready for the motor.   Then balance,  then fly.

Fri June 5 2026

Sorry, no flight report for yesterday June 4 2026  -  I woke up really run down,  and I went back to bed -  but  later on in the day,  I did make a new fresh  9"  motor for finger wind flights,  and I got out the table stooge,  stretched it,  and bench tested that  9"  motor with the latest,  "tightened up",  nose block.    What a loud sudden 'whirrrr',  and strong pull,  for six seconds on 180 finger winds.  The new  13" motor is also ready to stretch and bench test for later on.  I'm just still recharging for now.

Pic #1    3174      Sunrise -  at least I was up ...

Pic #2    3175    Two new motors.

Pic #3    3181    Putting the Beaver together.

Pic #4    3184    Bench testing the spinning prop run.
