This is the original version of the Gadfly, and it is mostly made from 1/16" by 3/32" balsa stick wood, whereas the Gadfly Mk. III is the laser cut version.
This model can be built in 2 to 4 hours, and it uses the Sig Mfg 5.5" prop assembly. This model is normally covered with preshrunk domestic tissue paper.
To save weight it can be covered with produce plastic bag material. Expect flight times of 45 to 75 seconds, although a lightweight version (5 grams) has done a little over 2 minutes.
This model is normally flown indoors; however, with a light spray of clear Krylon on a tissue covered model, it can be flown outdoors on calm days. |
