A wonderfull find, Lurk, that book on the flight to the Dutch East Indies. So many good pictures that a model F.VII of this first series is very possible! And an insightfull historical document too.

Quote from: TheLurker on Aug 16, 2026, 07:44 PMIf you can read Dutch then you might find this interesting, especially if you're following Henk's Fokker F-VIIa thread.
Thanks Lurker - What a find - and coincidental timing too given the Fokker builds going on!
I don't know Dutch but I cheated and found a button that provides an English translation.
Def some good pics - and even includes a long shot of the KLM field where F.II H-NABC is parked (the one right in the middle in case the resolution is not enough to read) together with other F.II/F.IIIs and similar aircraft.
cheers

What a well explained powerful video - just watched it - gets right into the aerodynamic details  -  ten out of ten.

And that is all for the pics,  and all for the mighty Russian Mig 17.

Mig 17   Static Display

Sunday Aug 16 2026                  post 4 of 7

I built this Mig 17 ,  but I don't have a build thread,   back in June 2015 when I just started balsa modeling in the "Virtual Aerodrome" website.    It weighed 58 grams.   I actually won a first place, in the jets category,  at the Model Show Sept 17 2016,  at the Historic Hangar in Windsor,  Ontario,  Canada.  (The only other time I won a category,  was with the  24" Nieuport 11 Bipe from Guillow's on Oct 18 2014).

I beat out the plastic guys,  with my winter camo scheme balsa Mig 17 jet (the camo design tissue is from Ez Built I think).   Well,  actually only beat out one plastic guy,  who had a very detailed plastic  model,  but, ... it was the head guy's,  super detailed plastic model  F18 ......    grin.

Pics to follow:
- four pics on the Red Stand
- four pics in the white box
- eight random Mig 17 pics off of the web

The Mig 17 is "DUMAS" kit # 234  18" wingspan  $37 in 2015   -  it comes with peel 'n stick decals (but I made my own), and yes it is very easy to build as a rubber powered model,  because the kit has the prop, thrust button, prop shaft, removable nose block in the plans,  etc - also it is laser cut - I only built this one for static display,  though.

More on the Mig 17 kit and the actual aircraft history here

"MIG 17 CAPTURED" - a  Sci-Fi  short skit

Sun Aug 16 2026                 post 2 of 7

Pic #1     3909
Prior to teleportation, the containment area was secured and cleared of all functioning enemy combatants, with a top secret scalar sonic pulse sound weapon, that caused all of them to lose their bowel control.  :o

Pic #2    3910
"Mandrake" and "Bloodroot" arrive uncontested, and examined and scanned the captured MIG 17 with their penetrating ionizing laser pulse microwave X-ray eyes for future analysis and reverse engineering.

Pic #3    3912
"Mandrake" and "Bloodroot" stand guard and watch for any intruders.

"MIG 17 CAPTURED" - a  Sci-Fi  short skit

Sun Aug 16 2026                 post 1 of 7

Pic #1    3904
HEADLINES: RUSSIAN MIG 17 CAPTURED by giant Cyborg Super Soldiers, "Mandrake" and "Bloodroot", in a top secret covert operation, code-named "Rewrite History", for the domination of the New World Order. "Mandrake" and "Bloodroot" sneak up on their target.

Pic #2    3905
The giant, man and machine hybrid, robotic Cyborg Super Soldiers, Mandrake and Bloodroot, were transported back in time through a wormhole portal, with the use of the newly discovered "Ark of the Covenant" chest, and it's magical powers.

Pic #3     3908
They were transported through the 12 dimensions of interstellar space and reality,  back in time to January 16, 1966,  to a top secret remote airbase in the Russian Boreal Siberian Forest, where the Mig 17 was cleverly concealed with it's Russian Winter Camouflage pattern.  (continued next post)
