Mr Speedy

So, as I've cut some wood 🪵, I guess I'm allowed to post something..
Why this plane? I've never built one before.. and my nephew's name is Hayato, which is a play on Hayate..that's probably the best reasons..

It's a long time since I last built a plane, so I expect to make all the beginner mistakes and have my  obvious blunders pointed out..some of it is coming back, but I think that all the " clever stuff" Is forgotten!

I had to buy a couple of sheets of balsa.. the first time that I've bought balsa that is " Made in China".. how things have changed!

It feels heavy already... see how we go!

Great to see some action from up there in the North East John. Is that from Mikes Flying Scale Models or your own design. You have made a good start.

Mr Speedy

Thanks Dave!
I have a bit more time now, so I have created a cosy corner in the lounge room, put on some relaxing tunes( to cover the sound of my cursing 🤬) and am making some piles of balsa dust!
The 3 view is from a Japanese 1/48 scale drawing book of WW11 fighters.. I don't seem to be able follow plans or instructions! I've nearly finished the easy bits.. fuselage will be more of a headache..

Good progress, I look forward to following this build. But, I do wonder if you might be wise to increase the size of the tailplane?

I recieved good advice on my own build thread, of a kit built Hellcat, from OZPAF and include his attachment.

In it; Don Deloach details the recommended tailplane size and centre of gravity position, based on succesful models.

Mr Speedy

Thanks Piecost, for your kind link to the reminders page! I will review it shortly!
Probably I will have to make a larger tail plane.. on this design, they set the tail plane forward of the fin a bit.. I'm looking at the nose area too, it's a bit of a complex shape to build lightly.. anyway, see how we go!
Probably I should have just built another Ki61/100, because they always fly well, but sometimes it's good to try something different and risk failure 😣!
