Hi all - for those in Northern Hemisphere - 'Trans-Tasman' refers in this case to a competition held between Australia and New Zealand - attracting flyers from across the Tasman Sea.

Held every year at a turf farm in Richmond NSW by New South Wales F/F Soc - the event is usually blessed with cold but calm conditions - and attracts some amazing models both rubber and power. It's on today and tomorrow - so if you are an FB person you can follow the progress and see the pics at their site: https://www.facebook.com/nswffs

I've just borrowed a couple of pics to give you a taste.

The first one is... well I don't know... but I think I want one!

Thanks Tim. Very far away for me but still very interesting.

So, you want one from the first picture? Me too... For decades now...

It is a Lawrence Lewis hydroplane from 1916. In my to do list for about 30 years but I could not find a 3-view drawing.

Looks like the builder somehow solved this. And by the looks of it compared to photographs of the original he ded a very good job.

It seems the design was patented and drawings were included, see here, but how one gets hold of the drawings from the US Patent Office is another question.  FWIW I think there are probably enough pictures to get a usable 3 view of the Model A (the one above).

1,2 Model A as built
3,4 Model A (modified) Wing sponsons with bonus humans for scale.

1 - Model A modified
2 - Model A6 (inter wing "ailerons")

I suspect the A6 is the same airframe as the Modified A so the snap would serve as a good front elevation if the "ailerons" and the wheels on the float* were removed.

*Probably a separate dolly so no matter.

Perhaps a good idea would be if someone drew up a 3-view and then we could all have a Lawrence Lewis Hydroplane Cook-Up.
I'd be in that for sure!

Since a model already exists, it might be easier to track down the creator and beg for a plan.

I already posted a question on Facebook.

To Lurk; "no it isn't" (in Month Python voice...

I also asked about the model and found out that it was built by Phil Warren and that the flying performance left a bit to be desired
All the best
