Hi all,

I would like to buy a rubber stripper.  ::)
Yep, I know, they are hard to come by, nevertheless I would like to have one.

If you have one, used or new, that you want to get rid of, please contact me. I will pay reasonable prices!

Pete Brown has made a 3d printed one which works well, I think he has sold them all now but is planning a new batch. PM me if you are interested and I can send you his email for more details.

 Reports from those that have them at Trinity are very positive

Other than the two 3D printed strippers mentioned here, I've never heard of any rubber strippers at "reasonable" prices. However, I think the unreasonable price I paid many years ago for a Harlan stripper was worth it. Maybe, if you have access to a 3D printer, you can find files someplace and make your own. The J&H Aero listing names the designer.

The width of the rubber strip is set by varying the number and thickness of washers on the machine screw that holds the razor blade in place. I cannot figure out the function of the wedge which is supposed to have been a major breakthrough.

I have never built a home-made rubber stripper. Maybe someone else that uses this website can explain the function of the wedge.

Rubber strippers are typically only used in making up rubber motors for indoor duration stick models like Penny Plane, F1D, A-6, etc. where it is crucial to match the nominal rubber width to the prop to achieve maximum flight times. The width, thickness, and density of Tan II and Tan Super Sport (TSS) rubber varies along its length. Because of this and because stripping rubber can only be done with a certain level of precision, expert indoor fliers size their motors in terms of grams per inch instead of nominal width. 

For outdoor motors, usually an optimum rubber motor can be made from various numbers of loops of commercially available rubber, e.g. 1/16-inch, 3/32-inch, 1/8-inch or 3/16-inch, or combinations of loops of rubber of different widths. It is my understanding that TSS rubber is no longer sold in 1/4-inch width. On rare occasions I may have stripped rubber for motors for smaller outdoor models such as Embryo.

You are wise to wait for the stripper by Peter Brown.

I checked with Kurt Krempetz who drew the plan for the Stevens stripper.

He said it is very difficult to use.

The wedge is made of balsa wood and is used to hold the rubber in the slot and urge it forward. It is only possible to strip about 1-inch to 1 1/2-inches at a time. Then you have may have to use a new wedge because the wedge gets slit in the process by the razor. The razor must be super sharp.

Mechanical strippers like the Harlan, Opegard, and Johnson strippers are far superior. I suppose that the Stevens stripper is better than no stripper.

Is the stripper by Peter Brown the one shown in the attached picture?

Thanks for posting the pic. Interestingly the two rotors seem to be geared together which the Harlan stripper manages without.

Might be my imagination, but Pete's stripper seems to have a more ummmm... positive drive/push through of the rubber than the Harlan. Yerss, sad anorak that I am I do have both.  The Harlan doesn't leave the house and Peter's version lives in my flight box. Emergency strip, field production, for the use of.
