Pic #1     4082     More progress.

Pic #2     4083     The tenon box is all glued up to the mounting plate.

Pic #3     4086     I will be gluing the broken off cowl ring with the thrust button housing,  gluing up this ring flat onto the three new large plastic rings.

Pic #4     4088     I made a  "holding handle"  out of green masking tape,  in order to help place the housing plate in the exact position for gluing.

Pic #1      4090     I have traced out the exact placement of the housing plate (with green tape),  onto the larger 0.0225" thick white plastic plate.   This will be very tricky to get glued in the correct spot,   using 5 min Epoxy.

Pic #2     4096     Now that housing plate is placed and glued on.   The extra five balsa sticks now pin it flat also.

Pic #3     4098     And here is the good result,  removed from the setup.

Pic #4     4100     Now we have to glue the final two 0.014"  plates on,  for more strength,  and then glue it into the white plastic cowl.

Smashed In Nose

Pic #1     4102     That blue motor paper engine has a  0.012"  plastic backing plate.    One more  0.014" plate to glue on.   You can see the shim and tenon on the nose block above,  and the compound angle (down thrust  right thrust) that it creates.  (the last previous pic too).

Pic #2     4107     This all glued up well.   The Tenon plate is final sanded fitted into the white plastic cowl.   Now the hard part is gluing it all up that way.

Pic #3     4110     The hub and thrust button housing extend down through this hole,  and the thrust button housing plate is now glued on its outside edge,  to the inside of the cowl proper,  using 5 min epoxy.   I am just gluing between the green masking tape strips for now,  and then let it dry in place.

Pic #4     4114     Here is a closeup.   The gray clay weight on the outside of the cowl,  is the top of the cowl.

Pic #1     4115     And now we have started gluing the other side of the outer inside edge of the thrust button housing plate,  to the white cowl proper.

Pic #2     4117     Here you can see the  'memory crack'  in the thrust button housing plate,  that would not close,  so I just filled it,  and the crack continuing up the side of the housing,  with  5 min  epoxy. 

Pic #3     4120     The view of the inside of the Cowl.   I sure hope it holds together.   I also painted up the engine plate silver morning gray,  and cut out another colored paper engine.

Pic #4     4121     And more touch up gray paint on the engine hub housing,  and the prop wire thrust button.

Smashed In Nose

    Here is the crucial test fit,  of the tenon block and plate,  into the plastic cowl,  while keeping the down thrust/right thrust,  of the shim that is  glued in there.   The grey clay weight on the outside of the cowl,  is the top of the cowl.

    Once I had it fitted properly,  I grabbed a sharp pencil, and traced the line location all around the edge the balsa shim,  where it sits just  1/16"  under the rear edge,  of the white plastic cowl.  I did a lot of practice fittings,  just to get the hang of barely sliding that tenon plate,  into the cowl,  up to that line.    The fit was so,  'press fit'  , exact,  the moment of truth has now presented itself  ....  :o

Repair of the Cracked Trailing Edge  Left Wing Second Bay from Fuse

     I took a piece of file folder cardboard  0.012" thick,  and cut a piece 20 mm x  40 mm,  and folded it over on itself like a sandwich,  to 10mm x 40mm on top and bottom,  and glued the sandwich and  its  'hinge'  around the trailing edge,  both top and  bottom.

Balancing the Beaver

     There is a lot of  5 min epoxy glue in the nose now,  and I had to remove the anti-glare gray clay weight on the nose,  and play around until finally got it balanced.   It was nose heavy at first.

Great that you managed to repair it. Yes, those plastic cowls do tend to crack unless strengthened or supported by an internal framework.

Flight Report #32  of  Wed July 22 to Fri July 24 2026

Thanks for the nice Reply Anyun.   Good to hear from you and see you on the new  hpa.aeromodeling.gr  website.    :)

Beaver Repairs  =  done
   
Balancing the Beaver  =  done         the Beaver now has a small amount of gray clay on the top of the nose.    All of  that extra clay weight for the  'anti-glare'  hood top,  has been taken up,  by all of that extra  5  minute Epoxy,   used inside the nose block repair.

Flying the Beaver  =    it flew fine with 5 or 6 second flights,  on 200 finger winds.   Trimmed out for a regular left turn,  and for the first time,  it had that little right turn at the end,  when the rubber ran out, and landed.

     Well,  that was three days of flying (and some more fixing up),  in a row,  Wed July 22 to Fri July 24 2026,  with good grass and low wind -  I actually went out 5 times - a couple were cut short -  sheared an 8 strand motor,  and another a broken strand,  and cut short when the wind gets too windy,  and when you have just done two perfect flights,  and there is nothing left to prove ....  -  it's good to go home with an undamaged model.    And one flight where one of the big Alaskan Bush Wheels broke off also.   I actually tried flying the Beaver with just the left wheel,  expecting it to go further left on the turn,  but it went on a circle,  waaaaaay right instead  -  I went home after that.

     So I'll just throw all of the pics and repairs into this Flight Report #32,  spanning those three days.    About 35 pics.

Start of Flight Report #32

10:00 AM   Wed July 22 2026   Nose repairs are complete.

     I was flying the old  eight strand  0.875" motor after all the nose repair.    Finger winds of 30,  40,  60,  90,  100.    They all flew great after the initial,  short,   'windswept' cartwheel solid 'thud' - lucky no damage,  and I thereafter moved to a wiser spot to launch from.    All good after that.   There was a crosswind from the left which kept the left-turning plane straight,  even though the angle of attack was slightly left of straight  (doglegging ?  nose in?  what's that word).   I was about to launch the 100 winds I had put in,  when all of a sudden the Rubber sheared mid motor,  and blew off the nose/cowl assembly,  :o   like a cork of a pop gun (no damage).    Half of the motor was coiled up in the nose,  and the other half coiled up around the rear motor peg of the fuse.

Pic #1     4189     One new motor is ready to fly.   Note the right thrust in the prop wire.   The right thrust and down thrust are significant and obvious to the eye,  so it it turned out to be a goodly amount.

     For these six flights,  the model was still nicely trimmed.   One strand of rubber was off of the prop hook,  but they were all great short flights anyway on 180 winds.   Three people were watching ...

Flight Report #32  of  Wed July 22 to Fri July 24 2026


Now it is Thur July 23 2026

Two flights only.   Left home at  7:00 AM ,  got home at 8:00 Am.    Lost a wheel on the second flight - the clear plastic hub came off,  but I had many spares at home.

     The best part was the first flight.   It was a big full six second flight,  sent way high,  and sunlit in the morning sun,  with a perfect long descent to a soft landing in the heaviest grass of my flying area of the Cricket Field.   And to top it all off,  this first flight was in front of 6 Cricket guys practicing with one Cricket ball.   I was in full brag mode,  as I held my perfect,  stoic,  classic,  stately launch form, position pose,  right until touchdown ....  ;D  ;D   You had to be there ...   :)   Sorry,  no pic ...  it is nice to just watch the whole flight sometimes.   ::)
