The structure for old issues of Aeromodeller has been prepared in the Plans Gallery (ok, not a plan, technically  ;D ).

https://hpa.aeromodelling.gr/plans/categories.php?cat_id=32

There one will find the different decades, in each decade the individual years starting with the same number, (so 1940 is in the 40s and not the 30s).

From an organisational point of view, this is excellent (I did that ;D )

There is only one small minor problem. There are only two issues in, so far.

Paolo (ilgk48) to the rescue... He will upload his files, although it will take some time.

Jeremy, I do not know if you can assist with your files as well, please talk with Paolo directly to coordinate.

Looking forward to that archive being accessible again.

So, Paolo has uploaded the complete 1989 and 1990 years of Aeromodeller.

I think it is looking good.

https://hpa.aeromodelling.gr/plans/categories.php?cat_id=39

And most eagled-eyed among you will have noticed a permanent link to the plans gallery on the top right corner of the page... For easier immediate access as requested by Squirelnet.

Paolo and I have been in touch and I've taken the job of starting from the 1930s.

I have a complete set up to 1992 of what is available online (as well as my bound hard copies from 1972 to the end of the first manifestation): it seems that Paolo has soft copies of all my hard copy so I will be using my soft copies from 1935 going forward in time until I run into Paolo coming back towards me!

As to the source of my soft copies, several I have scanned myself from odd hard copies I have picked up along the way, most have been downloaded from HPA2.0 or other sites (e.g. RC Library and RC Bookcase).  I propose to upload what I have that Paolo or other members don't contribute so we get the most complete collection possible once again. However, I don't want to tread on any other members' toes, so if you contributed before and want to ensure that your involvement is recorded, by having your user name recorded as the contributor of the issue to the archive, p lease contribute "your" issues once again as soon as you can.

I am trying to be fair to previous contributors but not to let that stand in the way of re-instating the collection so all HPA members have access to the most complete collection of AM that can be put together.

Any views?

Hi Jeremy, I already "liked" your message, so I am in agreement too.

Some extra information, even after uploading, I have the capability as admin to change the name of the person who uploaded, as long as it is an existing member of the new gallery, or to add a comment about the original member who uploaded it first.

No intention to "steal" the credits from anyone from any side, all we need is to have the information in time.

Having said that, please continue posting with the plan between you and Paolo, as you described.

Last note, can you add a thumbnail of the cover when you upload? It needs to be a .jpg file with 212 pixels width. Saves me from having to do it later which is more time consuming.

More and more issues are being uploaded daily.

https://hpa.aeromodelling.gr/plans/categories.php?cat_id=49

1981 1983 and 1989 are full and up.

1984 all except July,

1985 all except July, August, December

Does anybody have these issues they could scan and upload?

I've!
I'm just establishing the links to the plans mentioned in them.

Thanks to Paolo, the 80s Aeromodellers are almost done. 8 issues are missing from the decade, which he doesn't have and is looking for. Any help is most welcome...

Also, Berkeley kit plans, Dave Rees Plans and Tern Aero kit plans are also up.

It is going to be a long process, but we will get there eventually. 338 out of 10.000 plans up, slightly more than 3%...

Hi George

I have added Jan 1980 and also sent Paolo a link to my collection of 1980s AM so he can finish off while I keep pottering away in the 1930s

HI

All the Aeromodeller issues from the 1930s that Paolo and I have access to have been uploaded (as well as all but one of those from the 1980s - Paolo is much more dilgent than me).

We are missing about half of the issues:
  • 1935 - Dec
  • 1936 - All
  • 1937 - Feb, Mar, Apr, May, Jun,Jul, Oct, Nov, & Dec
  • 1938 - May, Jun, Jul, Aug, Sep, Oct, Nov
If you have one or more of the of the missing issues (in either physical or digital form), please let me know by PM and I will see what we can do to get them uploaded to this collection.
If you only have one or more issues in physical form, I am happy yo do the scanning etc to get them ready for uploading - the only issue is how we get them to me in Oz and how I get them back to you.  I'm happy to split the postage with you 50/50.

In the meantime, I will start on the 1940s.

Thanks in advance

Jeremy

Hi George

Check out the books section of the downloads I gave you.
I have a lot of most of the AM issues arranged like yours.
Might be easier to fill in the blanks.

I have all of these in digital form. Do you still need them?

Paul

Thanks for the offer

Paolo is "in charge" of the modern Aeromodellers and he is still uploading issues.

The ones mentioned here are already covered by him.

I would wait until he declares his job done and then see what gaps there might be.

AFAIK:

  • Paolo and I have copies in electronic form of every AeroModeller that was on the previous Plan Gallery.  Some of those copies had some glitches in them (fuzzy pages, missing pages etc) - I am reviewing the old ones that I am putting up to check whether there is an issue like that.  If there is, I will not upload that issue and put up a post in this thread mentioning that we need a better copy (or a missing page or whatever).
  • The thing that is taking time for me is creating the thumbnails and the tables of contents.  If Garry or anyone else has electronic versions of the old thumbnails or descriptions/keywords, it would be helpful for me if I could have access to that material, which would speed up the re-uploading of the 1940s and 1950s issues.
  • One thing that Paolo is doing is, if a free plan isn't currently available on OuterZone, he is getting it put there so that there is a complete archive of those plans there.  The issues that are "missing" in the 1970s -1990s are generally ones where he is waiting for a plan to become available on OuterZone as a result, so that he can put in the cross-link to that plan. I guess he could also put them into the Plan Gallery here.  By contrast, all I am doing is to check whether a plan has already been added to the OuterZone or AeroFred collection, but since all I have are the magazines, I am not copying out the plans in them and creating another place to find the same material either on the Plan Gallery or on those other sites.
